Please goto Admin Ski Racing, select NJSRA-Eastern, then Apply, and find your specific race to look at the race details. Ski Admin is always the first place to go. As parents with kids in the program, we are on this site all the time checking specifics and checking to see if anything has changed.

 

We also suggest go to Team Snap for latest messages. Usually the Mountain Creek Race Director will send emails to all parents through this venue.

Racers need to bring their skies, boots, poles, helmets, and gloves/mittens. Make sure their skies are tuned and sharpened the night before. Most kids wear their race suits, but some don’t own them and just use their ski pants/bibs. If it is cold make sure they have layers, hand/toe warmers, and neckies – all of the usual clothes. But for a race, you strip down at the top of the race course. Racing is a timed sport, the less bulky clothes you have on effects this. Don’t worry, their jackets/ski pants will be brought down by coaches in batches and piled up at the bottom of race course. So just hang out for couple mins to retrieve your racer jacket/pants.

At Mount Peter they have 2 facilities; the cafeteria and the ‘bubble’. Everyone meets in the bubble. This is where your child gets dressed and eats. This is where registration is located. It is not hard to find since Mt. Peter is not large. Parking is also very easy and accessible, just follow the crowd.

 

At NWAC, they have the main lodge where they usually direct the racers to the 2nd floor. Its small space, so you should be able to find your teammates or coaches quickly upon arrival. The parking is more complicated. You will need to drop off your child at the lodge, then you’ll probably be directed to park near Vernon Municipal Lot (about 1 mile away) and take a shuttle bus provided by NWAC. The shuttles run throughout the day but you can bring your skis and equipment onto the shuttle.

No, their ticket is part of the race fee you paid when you registered for the race with Admin Ski Racing. At Mount Peter your racer will get a ticket. Most racers put this on their goggle strap, it is the old fashion sticker ticket, although that may have changed this year to plastic card.

 

At NWAC, they do not have tickets of any kind since your bib is your ticket.

At Mount Peter and Mountain Creek, YES they require a $60 racing bib deposit – Cash or Check. You will get this back on the snow when the race is over. You will see volunteer parents taking the bibs off the racers immediately after they finish their 2nd run. They will be handing deposit money back to racer, so please make sure you explain this to your child so you don’t loose your money.

 

At NWAC, they may not require a racing bib deposit, but we recommend you bring a Cash or Check just in case. Similar to the others, there will be volunteer parents taking the bibs off the racers immediately after they finish their 2nd run.

Racers will meet with their coaches either at the top of the race course or group together at the bottom of the lift line. Racers will inspect the course with their coaches at least one to two times and then maybe once alone or will take a free run. We can’t speak directly to this, since each age group handles it differently, but usually just find your teammates and tag along.

It depends on the race. The U10/U12/U14 races are the longest of all age groups because of the larger number of racers with races finishing early to mid afternoon. The U16/U19 tend to finish in the early afternoon. Weather and timing also plays a factor, if there is an injury on the course or if course maintenance needs is required. Mount Peter races usually go pretty well and they don’t have many delays, however there can be Holds on the course and challenges at the end of race that can delay the awards, which are usually 30-60 minutes after the last racer.

The first run usually starts between 9am – 9:30am. Please goto Admin Ski Racing, select NJSRA-Eastern, then Apply, and find your specific race to look at the race details.

 

The second run is usually and 1 to 1.5 hours after the completion of the first run. This is to allow time for course to be reset and allow for course inspection, which typically allows for racers to slip the course twice with their coaches.

Yes, all USSA races are typically viewable from Live-Timing. Just find the state, host mountain, and specific race your child entered.

Mount Peter is very accessible to watch the race on foot. It is also the best place for grandparents to watch with minimal walking on the snow. You will see everyone walk out of the set-up area and hike on flat snow up to the end of the race course.

 

NWAC has easy viewing directly from the lodge or short walk to bottom of the race course.

At Mount Peter if you would like to ski, you can. We believe they offer a discounted ticket, but you would have to call or email Mount Peter directly to confirm. Purchasing tickets at Mount Peter is simple, you can ask at registration as well. However, most parents walk and don’t ski, but the option is always there.

 

At NWAC you are not able to purchase lift tickets, however it is easy viewing right from the lodge or short walk to bottom of the race course.

Some do, some don’t. At Mount Peter, most bring food and buy some food there as well. They have candy, pretzels, fries, an outside grill, and even a bar. The food is pretty good, but the cafeteria line can be long between 1st and 2nd run.

 

At NWAC, you have option during race registration if you want to purchase a lunch for your racer. Otherwise, I suggest you pack a lunch.

Speaking with the parents in the race room can help you navigate your first race. There’s a big learning curve on the part of the parent and the racer. Suggest you review FAQs here and also reference our Racing 101 page too.

 

We understand it can be very hard and overwhelming for first time family, but there are lots of us who can help you along the way and take you through the day. Please don’t hesitate to find any board member or veteran family, we will be more than happy to help. The coaches are also your support and can help.

MCSRC welcomes families interested in joining the club. MCSRC extends a 1-2 time free trial of our dryland sessions. After your trial, you need to become a member.

No, it is not mandatory but highly recommended.   These workout sessions focus on core strengthening and will help your child develop physical strength and flexibility. You are also welcome to join the workouts.

 

The benefit of attending is two fold: (1) be part of the MCSRC racing community from the beginning of the season and (2) attend specific work out sessions that will help your child be ready to hit the slopes.

Yes it is mandatory for USSA races.

NJSRA Race Venues – Entries must be received by the Monday prior to the race. All entries received after this date will be assessed a $25.00 per entry late fee.
